Recently Enforced US Presidential Tariffs on Kitchen Cabinets, Lumber, and Furniture Take Effect

Multiple recently announced American levies targeting foreign-sourced cabinet units, vanities, timber, and specific furnished seating have come into force.

As per a presidential directive signed by Chief Executive Donald Trump recently, a ten percent tariff on softwood lumber imports took effect on Tuesday.

Import Duty Percentages and Upcoming Changes

A 25% levy will also apply on foreign-made cabinet units and bathroom vanities – rising to 50% on the first of January – while a twenty-five percent tariff on wooden seating with fabric will increase to 30%, provided that no new trade agreements are reached.

Trump has cited the need to protect domestic industries and national security concerns for the decision, but certain sector experts fear the duties could increase housing costs and cause consumers postpone house remodeling.

Defining Import Taxes

Customs duties are taxes on foreign products usually imposed as a portion of a product's price and are submitted to the US government by companies shipping in the goods.
